At the first visit the reflexologist will take a detailed medical history and will then ask the client to remove their shoes and socks. The reflexologist will examine the feet before beginning treatment. Different degrees of controlled pressure with either the thumb or index finger will be used on all areas on the feet. Sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person and areas on the feet corresponding to parts of the body that are out of balance may feel tender when treated. The reflexologist will work below the client's tenderness threshold to correct the imbalance. A light treatment is equally as powerful as a firmer treatment.

After treatment, the client may experience a reaction as the body gets rid of unwanted toxins. Common reactions are feeling hot or cold, very relaxed, needing more sleep than usual etc. A client can sometimes have a healing crisis reaction. This is when the body responds to treatment by a temporary worsening of symptoms or the appearance of apparently new acute symptoms. The acute crisis is followed by an improvement in the client's condition and is seen as a turning point in their health. It is seen as a positive occurrence indicating that the body is responding to treatment.

The first visit is usually 1 hour and 15 minutes to allow for the consultation and answer any questions.
A course of treatment varies in length depending on your body's needs.
