This wall painting is taken from the mastaba (early pyramid) of Ankhmahor known as the “Physician's Tomb” because of the number of medically related paintings. The painting depicts what is believed to be the earliest example of foot and hand reflexology.
Sir Henry Head 1861 - 1940
English Neurologist who proved that there was a neurological relationship between pressure applied to the skin and internal organs. He discovered that diseased body parts could be identified by other areas of the body showing sensitivity when pressed. It was discovered that if painful areas of the body were massaged the healing process was intensified.
Sir Charles Sherrington 1861 - 1952
Discovered that the nervous system co-ordinates body systems. In 1906 he showed that a “reflex action” is where external stimulus on the surface of the body transmits energy to a receptor organ. Next page >> |
